About Braven

We believe that the next generation of leaders will emerge from everywhere. We empower promising college students with the skills, confidence, experiences, and networks necessary to transition from college to strong first jobs, which lead to meaningful careers and lives of impact.  Learn more about Braven’s impact:

Braven was named one of America’s Best Startup Employers 2022 by Forbes! We’re proud to be a nonprofit organization that values its employees and has always been committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace that mirrors our country.

About the Role

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 40,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven must build systems that scale and are easy to use.  In that effort, Braven is hiring a Director of Systems Management who will help Braven’s CTO manage critical workstreams. Braven organizes cross-functional technical initiatives into “scrum teams.” Our scrums have been able to overhaul our technology platform, scale Braven’s systems to serve more students, and advance initiatives to become more data-driven. This role will be tasked with leading some of these scrums. The Director of Systems Management will report directly to the CTO.

What You’ll Do: Set up and lead scrum teams to execute initiatives requiring substantial engineering and coordination.

  1. Lead the scrum team that develops, tests, and launches features for our core platform.
    1. Draft user stories to capture needs of students, volunteers, and staff.
    2. Estimate the amount of effort required to finish each user story
    3. Understand needs within Program Operations and Systems so as to prioritize
    4. Manage the quality assurance process to verify that stories are indeed “done”
    5. Communicate cross functionally so that documentation and training are coordinated with software development
    6. Lead the weekly scrum retrospectives and daily check ins
    7. Groom the backlog to queue up work for each sprint
    8. Provide regular progress updates to organizational leaders
  2. Lead additional cross-functional projects as capacity allows.

Therefore, we require teammates to live within commuting distance of our hubs: Chicago, New York City, Newark, and Atlanta. Each teammate can use two flex days of their choosing per week to work remotely. We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Braven, we are committed to attracting, engaging, developing, and retaining a diverse team. Braven operates in the context of our American culture, against the backdrop of systemic racism and oppression of marginalized people since our country’s founding. We are committed to assembling leaders at our organization who have emerged from everywhere, with a particular emphasis on those who share the racial and income backgrounds of our Fellows, and creating an inclusive culture that allows all teammates, of all experiences and identities, to thrive.
