About the Role

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 40,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven must expand its programming to universities across the country.  In that effort, Braven is hiring a Program Manager, Accelerator (PMA) who will facilitate and fully lead the execution of the Braven Leadership and Career Accelerator for first-generation college students as part of the innovative Braven Online team. As the PMA, you’ll be part of the engine behind our work with our newest university partner– Northern Illinois University (NIU). You’ll facilitate and manage the experience of hundreds of college students (typically Sophomores) as they complete the Braven Accelerator in a largely remote format. There will be some opportunities for light in-person engagements 1-2x per semester at NIUs campus in Dekalb, IL. You’ll also help to support an alumni experience for Junior and Senior-year college students that greatly increases their likelihood of graduating college with a strong first job. 

What You’ll Do: Fully managing the facilitation and execution of the Braven Online course and lightly supporting the post-course experience for our new partner- Northern Illinois University; This includes but is not limited to:

  • Internalizing and facilitating all Braven Online curriculum components and ensuring weekly remote Learning Labs are logistically sound and high quality 
  • Fully and independently facilitating weekly (2-3 nights per week) remote programming sessions each lasting 2 hours. Sessions are typically from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. CST. 
  • Facilitating 2-3 remote/in-person weekend and evening events (i.e. volunteer training, etc.) each semester, typically held in the evenings or on Saturdays
  • Supporting a team of Teaching Assistants to measure student mastery and inform coach feedback, addressing areas of concern using data and user research/interviews to identify root causes 
  • Heavily supporting the training and coaching of volunteer Leadership Coaches
  • Ensuring a high quality “customer” experience and high customer satisfaction for our students, partners, volunteers, and stakeholders through strong and timely communication and anticipating customer needs
  • Operating with complete ownership over student outcomes; troubleshooting obstacles, asking for help, utilizing data reports, and quickly implementing solutions to maximize impact 
  • Collaborating with other PMs from Braven Online and other teams to ensure an excellent and seamless program experience for Fellows
  • Onboarding, managing and supporting a team of graduate teaching assistants responsible for grading student work
  • Hiring, training, managing, and developing up to one student intern per semester to assist with the above responsibilities 
  • Attending team-specific offsites and org-wide retreats (2x/year) 

Qualifications & Skills: Braven is looking for a dynamic facilitator, who is keen on developing strong relationships and quick to solve problems as they arise. You are bringing experiences and strengths like these:

  • 2-4 years of relevant work/internship experience, ideally in teaching or in workforce development. 
  • Extreme comfort and experience with public speaking and facilitation 
  • You have a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and cultural competence
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to analyze both qualitative and quantitative data to make decisions and track progress to goals 
  • BA or equivalent degree required 
  • You exemplify Braven’s core values
  • Your experiences have informed your belief in Braven’s mission and have prepared you to work with, or for, Braven’s student Fellow population

  • Ability to work in-person in Chicago, IL
  • Travel 2x/year
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be fully vaccinated and have received the Booster vaccination against COVID-19 and provide proof of such by the date of hire. Exempted individuals will be subject to weekly testing if they engage in any in-person work activities.   

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be between $51,500 - $64,400. Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking. When social distancing is not in place, we gather in the office three days a week. Therefore, we require teammates to live within commuting distance of Chicago. Each teammate can use two flex days of their choosing per week to work remotely. We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.
