About the Role

Braven is seeking a program whiz and masterful facilitator with a demonstrated ability to win over others to join our Braven San José State University (SJSU) team as Program Manager for Braven’s Leadership and Career Accelerator Course offered to all students at SJSU. 

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Program Manager will be responsible for:

Lead strong program execution (60%)

  • Fully and independently facilitating weekly (2-3 nights per week) in-person and remote programming sessions, called Learning Labs, each lasting 2 hours. Sessions are typically from 6 - 8 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a virtual session on Thursdays from 2 - 4 PM.
  • Ensure a high quality and impactful experience for ~250 San José State University students and 40 volunteers per year through strong project planning and logistics
  • Train and manage a team of Teaching Assistants (TAs) to monitor students’ progress; analyze mastery, attendance, and engagement data; and intervene where necessary in order to reach outcomes goals
  • Craft compelling weekly communications through email, text and Discord that encourage student engagement and build community
  • Communicating with professors of records about academic concerns, support, and progress of students
  • Collaborating with Central Product team to ensure program quality
  • Providing program feedback to central Product team

Coach volunteer Leadership Coaches (15%)

  • Provide exemplary customer service to volunteers to ensure they have tools, training, and information to support Braven participants
  • Observe and provide feedback to Braven volunteers weekly to support them to improve their own facilitation and coaching skill sets
  • Substitute for Leadership Coaches who are absent

Team Culture and Management (25%)

  • Managing a team of interns and a Program Operations Coordinator to support with the implementation of the Accelerator Course
  • Onboarding interns through intern training events (i.e. volunteer training, etc.) each semester
  • Working collaboratively with Program Manager, Recruitment and Program Manager, Workforce Development in order to ensure students transition through the Braven program
  • Quarterly report out of Accelerator outcomes at Team Stepbacks

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree
  • 2-4 years of experience with a track record of achieving successful outcomes 
  • Prior experience with education programming including facilitation/public speaking, event coordination, and teaching & learning

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work in-person in San Jose, CA
  • Ability to work 2 evenings/week and 2-3 weekends per year
  • Authorized to work in the US
  • Must be fully vaccinated and have received the Booster vaccination against COVID-19 and provide proof of such by the date of hire. Individuals may claim exemption from the vaccine requirement for medical or religious reasons. Exempted individuals will be subject to weekly testing if they engage in any in-person work activities.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your fit for the role, will likely be between $62,400 - $73,100. Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity and the inequities that can emerge from salary negotiations, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead each salary offer is determined carefully upfront using benchmarking. When social distancing is not in place, we gather in the office two to three days a week. Therefore, we require teammates to live within commuting distance of San José. Each teammate will have two flex days to work remotely.  We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.
