About the Role

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven must continuously improve our programming and how we communicate our impact with strong data insights. In that effort, Braven is hiring a Director, Data who will be accountable for delivering data insights across our Accelerator and Post-Accelerator programs, quantifying and describing our impact for internal and external audiences, driving program strategy and improvement, and informing organizational strategy.

The Director, Data will be an important thought partner to regional program teams and the central External Affairs team in making sense of data. As a member of the Product team at Braven and reporting to the VP, Operations & Insights, you will grow and develop our data insights team (2 FTEs with strong potential to grow) and use your expertise to help the organization tell a compelling story of our impact and make sound decisions.

 

What You’ll Do:

• Conduct and manage your team to conduct program analyses for all of Braven programming. Present findings and recommendations to a wide audience including Braven’s leadership team, regional execution teams, etc.
• Provide data insights, statistics, and narrative to support Braven’s thought leadership, fundraising, and partnership efforts, which are led by the External Affairs team.
• Be a member of Braven’s cross-functional project teams, as needed. Project teams centrally plan and execute Braven programming and execute other strategic projects.
• Provide strong thought partnership and customer service to peers across the organization to identify needed analysis, interpret findings, and make sound data-driven decisions.
• Provide ad hoc data support for other Braven teams as needed, as managed through Braven’s internal ticketing system
• As a people leader, develop and empower your team to achieve the team and organization’s vision and goals and help individuals reach their fullest professional potential.

Required Qualifications

• BS/BA in quantitative field or work experience that demonstrates expertise in quantitative analysis
• 5+ years of experience in a non-profit data role, strategy consulting, or other analytical function
• Mastery of spreadsheet-based analysis and at least one of the following: Python, SQL, R

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years successfully managing and developing others
• Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
• The majority of your professional experience has been conducting complex data analysis with different tools and statistical packages and working with others to make use of findings, preferably in the non-profit field.
• You have a strong design sense, creating models and analysis that follow elegant logic, are easily interpretable by other data specialists, are easy to repeat, and are clearly documented.
• You love collaboration and are good at it. You understand why data is important to your organization and how it is in service of a shared mission.
• You have successfully led cross-functional and strategically important projects. At the same time, you excel at managing daily operations, paying close attention to detail and communicating well with stakeholders
• Technical Skills and Knowledge:
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Asana
  • Proficiency in Tableau, PowerBI, or other data visualization software
  • Proficiency in Salesforce

• Ability to work in-person in Chicago (IL) preferred, Atlanta (GA), Newark (NJ) or New York (NY)
• Authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must be fully vaccinated and have received the booster vaccination against COVID-19 and provide proof of such by the date of hire. Individuals may claim exemption from the vaccine requirement for medical or religious reasons. Exempted individuals will be subject to weekly testing if they engage in any in-person work activities.   

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your demonstrated fit for the role, will likely be between $105,000- $131,200 for Atlanta, $110,500-$138,100 for Chicago, $119,300-$149,100 for Newark and New York City. Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking. Location

We gather in the office two to three days a week. Therefore, we require teammates to live within commuting distance of one of our hubs: Chicago, New York City, Newark, and Atlanta. Each teammate can use at least two flex days per week of their choosing to work remotely. We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.
